Manoj Tiwari is an Indian politician belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and also a singer and an actor who works predominantly in the Bhojpuri film industry. Before joining politics, he had acted in hundreds of films and was very well-known.
Tiwari started his career in 1997 as a singer and came into the limelight after starring in the 2003 Bhojpuri movie Sasura Bada Paisa Wala. The movie was a huge hit and a commercial success at the box office. Following the success of the movie, Tiwari delivered other hits like Daroga Babu I Love You (2005), and Bandhan Toote Na (2005). He also sang the songs for all his films.
He made his Hindi film debut with a brief appearance in 2002 movie 23rd March 1931: Shaheed, which was a biographical film about Bhagat Singh. The main stars had been Sunny Deol and his brother Bobby Deol.
Tiwari was a contestant on reality TV show Bigg Boss 4 in 2010, and he played host on the 2012 shows - Bharat Ki Shaan: Singing Star (Season 2) and Sur Sangram (Season 1 and 2). In 2013, he was a contestant on Welcome – Baazi Mehmaan Nawazi Ki, and in 2018, he was the host on Nehle Pe Dehla.
Manoj Tiwari contested the 2009 general election as a Samajwadi Party candidate from Gorakhpur Lok Sabha but lost to Yogi Adityanath. Then in 2014, he contested the general election on a BJP ticket from the North East Delhi constituency and defeated Aam Aadmi Party candidate Anand Kumar. In the 2019 general elections, he contested from North East Delhi constituency and defeated Congress candidate Sheila Dikshit. He is the head of the BJP organisation in Delhi.
Manoj Tiwari was born on February 1, 1971 in Atarwalia, Bihar to Chandra Deo Tiwari and Lalita Devi. He completed his studies from the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. He was married to Rani Tiwari and they have a daughter together.
