Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel yesterday laid the foundation stone of Suzuki's INR 3,000-crore vehicle manufacturing plant in the state. The Suzuki group will set up three plants at Hansalpur with a total capacity of 7.5 lakh vehicles. The first plant is scheduled to start production in mid-2017.

Driven by robust sales, the country's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India today reported 17.8 per cent increase in net profit at INR 802.2 crore for the third quarter ended December 31, 2014. The company, which had posted a net profit of INR 681.15 crore in the same period last fiscal, said material cost reduction initiatives and favourable foreign exchange have also contributed to its bottomline.

Japanese auto giant Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) said construction of its INR 4,000- crore car manufacturing plant in Gujarat will start next week and the work will be completed by 2017. The foundation stone laying ceremony of the facility in Hansalpur village, around 170km from here, will take place tomorrow on January 28, the company said.

Country's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India is eyeing 20 per cent growth in vehicle exports this fiscal at 1.2 lakh units, riding on increased sales in non-European markets like Africa, Latin America and the Middle East. In the current fiscal till date, the company has exported over 92,000 units in over 100 countries, a growth of over 23 per cent over previous year and would soon launch its latest model 'Ciaz' in Mexico to add to its export basket. "We are likely to close the financial year with around 1.2 lakh units, a growth of around 20 per cent," a Maruti Suzuki India Spokesperson told PTI.

The country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India hiked prices of its vehicles by up to INR 31,600 following the expiry of excise duty concessions extended to the auto sector. The increased prices after revision of central excise duty with effect from January 1, 2015, across all models ranges between INR 7,850 on Omni van to INR 31,600 on mid-sized sedan Ciaz, a company official said.

Country's largest car-maker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) today reported a 20.8 per cent increase in total sales in December at 1,09,791 units. The car maker had reported sales of 90,924 units in the same month last year. Following the release of strong sales numbers, shares of Maruti were trading 0.50 per cent higher at Rs 3,344 in an otherwise weak general market.

Maruti-Suzuki's plan to set up a car plant in Gujarat as a fully-owned subsidiary of its Japanese parent has already been objected to by seven mutual fund houses holding stakes in the car company. A decision on the proposed plant is likely to be taken by Maruti after its forthcoming extraordinary general meeting which is likely to be held later this month. Country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India today said it would challenge the penalty imposed on it by CCI for violation of trade norms in the spare parts and after services market. "I believe what CCI has done (is) that they have not understood the entire issue of spare parts of cars. What they are saying may apply to other industries (but not in auto)...There is a lack of understanding of the difference. (The auto) industry by its nature is totally different," Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) Chairman RC Bhargava told PTI in an interview.
