Antara Biswas, better known by her stage name Monalisa, is an Indian actress who acts in Bhojpuri, Hindi, Bengali, Odia, Tamil, Kannada and Telugu films. She has acted in several low budget movies with her acting career starting in 1997 with Hindi movie Jayate. She is, however, more popular in the Bhojpuri film industry.
Monalisa, who also does a number of item songs in movies, came into the limelight when she starred in 2004 Hindi movie Tauba Tauba, which is a Bollywood sex comedy. It was directed by TLV Prasad and is a remake of the 1981 film Private Lessons which starred Sylvia Kristel. The movie failed to impress and most critics slammed it for not having any substance while also being distasteful.
Her next Bollywood movie, in which she made a guest appearance in the title song, was Bunty Aur Babli. The movie was a commercial success. Monalisa then portrayed an item girl in Hindi film Blackmail, which had starred Ajay Devgn and Suniel Shetty.
Monalisa made an appearance in several Bollywood movies, but they were always for small roles. She is currently playing the negative role of Mohana in Star Plus' Nazar, for which she has received much appreciation for her portrayal of the latter.
Monalisa was born on November 21, 1982 to a Bengali Hindu family in Kolkata, West Bengal. She adopted the stage name Monalisa at the behest of her uncle.
Where her studies are concerned, she started off from Julien Day School in Elgin Road, South Kolkata and then graduated with a degree in Sanskrit from Ashutosh College of the University of Calcutta. She then started her career as a small-time TV actress and model in Odia video albums.
Apart from having acted in over 125 Bhojpuri films, she has also done a few television shows. Monalisa also made an appearance as celebrity guest on Comedy Nights Bachao, Kitchen Champion and Nach Baliye 9, and was a celebrity contestant on Bigg Boss 10 and Nach Baliye 8.
