Monkeypox is a viral zoonosis (a virus transmitted to humans from animals) with symptoms similar to those seen in the past in smallpox patients, although it is clinically less severe. On Saturday, July 23, 2022, the World Health Organisation declared Monkeypox a public health emergency of international concern. "I have decided that the global #monkeypox outbreak represents a public health emergency of international concern," WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said at a press conference. On Sunday, the fourth case of monkeypox in India was reported from Delhi. WHO chief however also outlined that the cases can be curbed with the right strategy.
