Mumbai City FC is the team that represents Mumbai in the Indian Super League. Mumbai is known for its vast cultural diversity. The love for this sport comes naturally and has a great significance in this city. The team is co founded by the Bollywood sensation Ranbir Kapoor and a charted accountant Bimal Prekh. The Mumbai City FC is also investing in the grassroots development programs for wholesome development of sports in the city. The program includes providing good infrastructure, quality coaching and a dream to make India into a top footballing nation. Its endeavor is to create strong grass root programs that will create footballers who can compete with international ranks. The home turf for MCFC has been the DY Patil stadium for the first two seasons. For the coming season the home stadium of MCFC has been changed to Andheri sports complex. The training of the team used to take place Fr. Agnel School, Vashi and cooperage ground, Colaba.The Mumbai City FC recruited former England international player Peter Reid as a manager and Freddie Ljungberg was the marquee player. In the second season it was announced that Nikolas Anelka will don the position of the marquee player and the manager of the club and In 2016 Diego Forlan will play as marquee player and Alexandre Guimares will be the manager of the club looking to enter the playoffs for the first time.On 15 September 2014, the club signed Nicolas Anelka who is a former French international who had been a free agent since he was dismissed from West Bromwich Albion earlier on in that year. Three days later, former Swedish international Freddie Ljungberg was signed as the team's first marquee player, returning from two years of retirement.Mumbai played as the visitors in the first ever ISL match on 12 October 2014, at Atletico de Kolkata's Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. Without having Anelka and Ljungberg on the side they lost the match by lost 30. On 18 October 2014, the club registered their first and a big victory over FC Pune City by beating them as 50 at DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai, In which Andre Moritz scored his first ever hat-trick of ISL. The team finished the season seventh of eight teams, and could not qualify for the playoffs.In July 2015, Anelka became player-manager, replacing Englishman Peter Reid. Frantz Bertin was appointed captain at the beginning of the season. During season 2, Mumbai could win only 4 matches and they lost 6 matches out of 14 matches. Thus, they finished at sixth position in the group table. Due to such results, Nicholas Anelka surrendered and admitted that he won't return back for ISL 2016.Ranbir Kappor in an interview with TOI statedFootball has always been a fierce passion and owning a club has been a lifelong dream. Chennaiyin FC have bolstered their attacking prowess by securing the services of promising 20-year-old forward Gurkirat Singh from Mumbai City FC on a two-year deal. The Punjab-born player, known for his left-wing exploits, will add firepower to the Marina Machans' frontline until 2026.
