Najeeb Ahmed is a student of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi, who has been missing from the JNU campus since 15 October, 2016. On June 29, 2017, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh for anyone providing information on the whereabouts of Najeeb Ahmed. Najeeb Ahmed had gone missing from the Mahi-Mandvi hostel in JNU after a fight with some members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). Some sources also said that the cops found that Najeeb was searching information about the Islamic State (IS) organisation online, but the Delhi Police has denied any clues to his links to the terrorist organisation. However, it was reveald that Najeeb Ahmed was suffering from depression and was on medication for the same.
Reports say that on the night of October 13, 2016, Najeeb Ahmed called her mother in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh, to tell her that something was wrong. She came all the way to Delhi to meet him, but Najeeb Ahmed went missing. His roommates informed her that he had been in a fight and was injured.
