National Doctors' Day

National Doctors' Day is celebrated in India on July 1 every year. Internationally, Doctors' Day is marked on March 30 each year. But in India, the National Doctors' Day is a tribute to legendary physician Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy, who was also the second Chief Minister of West Bengal. Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy was born on July 1, 1882. The physician died on the same day as his birthday. He passed away on July 1, 1962. Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy was honoured with a Bharat Ratna on February 4, 1961, a year before his death.

Internationally, Doctors' Day was first observed on May 9, 1933, in Georgia, USA. Doctors' Day in India celebrates the selfless service of doctors as also of Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy. Watch a video on Doctors' Day and Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy here:
