Toyota and Nissan to recall over 3 million cars with Takata airbags

Toyota and Nissan, Japan's two top automakers, today said they will recall more than three million more cars globally because of concerns over airbags involved in eight deaths worldwide. "Toyota will now globally expand its recalls to involve approximately 2,860,000 additional vehicles equipped with certain front passenger airbag inflators," the automaker said in an email.

Nissan owned Datsun has announced its plans to launch a third entry level car in the country next year. This is yet another attempt by the Japanese auto major Nissan, who is seeking a bigger play in India's small car market, which is presently dominated by Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai. The company, which sold a total of about 17,000 units of Datsun vehicles in the country in the first year since the brand made a comeback last year, is also looking at having around 60 exclusive showrooms of the brand, mostly in smaller towns by 2016.

Nissan Cars India: Nissan aims to touch 300 outlets across country by next year

Aiming to boost sales, Japanese auto major Nissan will be doubling its dealer outlets to touch 300 in the country by next year and would be focussing on the domestic market for its newly launched Datsun GO+. The company presently has 160 outlets in the country. Datsun India which launched its GO + brand in Kerala today, has plans to open 25-30 outlets by next year.

US Space agency NASA has joined hands with Japanese automaker Nissan to develop self-driving cars and aims to start testing the first such vehicle by the end of this year. Researchers from Nissan's US Silicon Valley Research Center and NASA's Ames Research Center at Moffett Field, California have formed a five-year research and development partnership to advance development of autonomous vehicle systems and their commercial applications.

The company that last week launched a compact multi- purpose vehicle Go+ to add to the Go small car will expand its network in small towns to boost sales of its Datsun brand of vehicles.
