Carmakers like Maruti Suzuki, Ford, Toyota, Nissan, Datsun, Renault including luxury segment cars BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi are set to increase prices of their respective range of cars in India, yet again, citing the increase in input costs as the main reason.

In a bid to win back its customers, Japanese carmaker Nissan has recently revealed that the next generation Nissan Micra will come with better built quality and improved interiors. The Information was revealed by the Nissan’s executive vice-president, Trevor Mann, who also said that the car will be unveiled next year.

Japanese auto major Nissan is recalling around 12,000 units of various models, including mid-sized sedan Sunny and small car Micra, manufactured between June 2013 and March 2015 in India as part of its global campaign to rectify engine switch and airbags.

Toyota and Nissan, Japan's two top automakers, today said they will recall more than three million more cars globally because of concerns over airbags involved in eight deaths worldwide. "Toyota will now globally expand its recalls to involve approximately 2,860,000 additional vehicles equipped with certain front passenger airbag inflators," the automaker said in an email.

Nissan owned Datsun has announced its plans to launch a third entry level car in the country next year. This is yet another attempt by the Japanese auto major Nissan, who is seeking a bigger play in India's small car market, which is presently dominated by Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai. The company, which sold a total of about 17,000 units of Datsun vehicles in the country in the first year since the brand made a comeback last year, is also looking at having around 60 exclusive showrooms of the brand, mostly in smaller towns by 2016.

Aiming to boost sales, Japanese auto major Nissan will be doubling its dealer outlets to touch 300 in the country by next year and would be focussing on the domestic market for its newly launched Datsun GO+. US Space agency NASA has joined hands with Japanese automaker Nissan to develop self-driving cars and aims to start testing the first such vehicle by the end of this year. Researchers from Nissan's US Silicon Valley Research Center and NASA's Ames Research Center at Moffett Field, California have formed a five-year research and development partnership to advance development of autonomous vehicle systems and their commercial applications.

Japanese auto major Nissan will miss its target of achieving 10 per cent market share in India by 2016 but may advance the launch of a third vehicle from its Datsun brand in the country to propel growth. The company that last week launched a compact multi- purpose vehicle Go+ to add to the Go small car will expand its network in small towns to boost sales of its Datsun brand of vehicles.
