North east is the epicenter of football in India and representing it in the Indian Super League is the North East United Football Club led by the Bollywood actor John Abraham. John Abraham is a huge fan of Football and very well knows that the football talent in North is extremely high. Thus he invested in this region which includes eight states and the team was formed. North East United FC is the first team to represent this region as a whole, so its historic. The first player to captain the National team, Dr. Talimeran Ao, post-independence, was from the north-east. The north-east has also been a steady feeder for the National football team. Year over year, there has been a heavy representation of north-eastern players in the National Football leagues as well. The team is currently managed by Nelo Vimgada who is a very experienced Portuguese football manager.The club signed a European championship winner and world cup winning defender Joan Capdevila. He said: "India is a huge country and it should be a privilege for me to be a small part in popularizing this global game here and working with the young talented footballers of North East India. Then the club hired its first manager, New Zealander Ricki Herbert, who had represented and managed his nation at World Cups. On the October 13, 2014 the team made its debut against Kerala blasters at Indira Gandhi international stadium. Spaniard Koke scored a spectacular goal and they won the first game quite easily. The teams performance wasnt that great and the NEUFC couldnt make it to the play offs. They had to finish in the last position amongst the eight teams.For the second season of Indian Super League, NorthEast United signed former Portugal international Simao Sabrosa as their new marquee signing. On 1 July 2015 the team announced their manager for the 2015 season, former Venezuela national coach, Cesar Farias. Sadly the team lost all three of their opening matches with Simao absent through injury, but then they earned a 20 home win over Chennaiyin FC in which the marquee player won and dispatched an added-time penalty kick to open the scoring.On 13 May 2016, NorthEast United announced Sergio Farias as the clubs new manager. However, Sergio Farias joined his former club Suphanburi FC for a second stint forcing NorthEast United to look for a new coach. On July 9, 2016, NorthEast United officially announced Sergio Farias exit. On July 23, 2016, NorthEast United announced Nelo Vingada as the club's new manager.
