Konidela Kalyan Babu, popularly known by his stage name Pawan Kalyan, is an Indian actor, producer, director, writer, playback singer who works predominantly in the Telugu film industry. He made his movie debut in 1996 with Telugu film Akkada Ammayi Ikkada Abbayi, and as a director in 2003 with Johnny, in which he was also the writer, actor and playback singer for some of the songs. His political career began in 2008 as president of Yuvarajyam, the youth wing of Praja Rajyam Party.
As a producer, Pawan was part of Anjana Productions, which was established by Chiranjeevi in 1988, and movies that have him named as the producer were Mugguru Monagallu (1994), Sardaar Gabbar Singh (2016), and Chal Mohan Ranga (2018). As a playback singer, his songs include Kili Kili from the 2004 movie Gudumba Shankar, Paparayudu from 2011 film Panjaa, Kaatama Rayuda from 2013 movie Attarintiki Daredi, and Kodakaa Koteswar Rao from the 2018 film Agnyaathavaasi. In 2019, he was the narrator in the movie Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy.
1997 TO 2010:
Pawan, after making his debut in 1996, went on to star in Gokulamlo Seeta in 1997, followed by Suswagatham and Tholi Prema in 1998. After that, he starred in Thammudu in 1999, Badri in 2000, Kushi in 2001, Johnny in 2003, Gudumba Shankar in 2004, cameo appearance in Shankar Dada M.B.B.S. in 2004, Balu in 2005, Bangaram in 2006, Annavaram in 2006, cameo appearance in Shankar Dada Zindabad in 2007, Jalsa in 2008, and Puli in 2010.
2011 TO 2018:
In 2011, Pawan starred in Teen Maar and Panjaa, and they were followed by Gabbar Singh and Cameraman Gangatho Rambabu in 2012. In 2013, he starred in Attarintiki Daredi, which became the highest-grossing Telugu film of all time until it was surpassed by Baahubali: The Beginning in 2015. His next was Gopala Gopala in 2015, and then Sardaar Gabbar Singh in 2016, Katamarayudu in 2017, and Agnyaathavaasi in 2018.
Pawan was nominated and won a number of awards for his movie roles, and in 2012 he won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Telugu at the 60th Filmfare Awards South, the CineMAA Award for Best Actor – Male, and SIIMA Award for Best Actor all for his role in the movie Gabbar Singh. He also won Best Actor – Telugu at the Santosham Film Awards and Best Actor (Male) at the Margadarsi Big Telugu Entertainment Awards for Attarintiki Daredi.
Pawan founded a political party called Jana Sena on March 14, 2014 and had campaigned extensively for the Telugu Desam Party and BJP combine in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. He announced that he intended to enter politics full-time in December 2017. During the 2019 Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly election, he lost the election from 2 seats – Gajuwaka and Bhimavaram.
Pawan Kalyan was born on September 2, 1971 at Bapatla in Andhra Pradesh to Venkat Rao Konidela and Anjana Devi, and he is the younger brother of actor Chiranjeevi and Nagendra Babu. He has been married three times - to Nandini from 1997 to 2007, to Renu Desai from 2009 to 2012 and to Anna Lezhneva since 2013. He has four children, two from Renu Desai and two from Anna Lezhneva.
