Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is an Indian politician who became the general secretary of the All India Congress Committee in charge of eastern Uttar Pradesh after she formally entered politics on January 23, 2019.
She regularly visits the constituencies of Rae Bareilly and Amethi, the seats of her mother Sonia Gandhi and brother Rahul Gandhi, and is very popular in the two constituencies. Priyanka often draws a large crowd whenever she visits, and most would like to see her contest the elections, which she has so far shied away from.
During the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Priyanka was her mother's campaign manager and helped supervise her brother's campaign, and she again took an active part in their campaigns during the 2019 General Elections.
After the drubbing the Congress got during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Priyanka has taken a more active role as a party leader. Using her Twitter account, she has been slamming the government at the Centre for the economic slowdown in the country which has led to many losing their jobs. Apart from that, she has also been questioning the government on various decisions that it has taken, demanding answers from it.
Priyanka Gandhi was born on January 12, 1972 in New Delhi, India to Rajiv Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi and she has one brother. Her father, Rajiv, was an Indian politician who served as the 6th Prime Minister of India, and who was assassinated by a suicide bomber in 1991. Her mother, Sonia, became the president of the Congress party in 1998, and in 2017, Rahul took over from her. Priyanka is the granddaughter of Feroze and Indira Gandhi, making her a member of the politically prominent Nehru-Gandhi family.
She is married to Robert Vadra and they have two children together. She follows Buddhist philosophy and practices Vipassana as taught by SN Goenka.
Priyanka studied at the Modern School and obtained a bachelor's degree in Psychology from Jesus and Mary College, University of Delhi, and then a master's degree in Buddhist studies in 2010.
