R D Burman was born on June 27, 1939, in Kolkata, as Rahul Dev Burman. He was a popular music composer of Indian films, fondly known as Pancham Da. Music was in his genes, as R D Burman was the son of famous music composer Sachin Dev Burman aka S D Burman. Pancham Da's music still resonates in the hearts of listeners young and old. R D Burman was married to Asha Bhosle, the sister of playack singing legend Lata Mangeshkar, and one of the most popular singers of India herself.
