As per the SP's new candidate list, ex-UP Minister Swami Prasad Maurya will also contest from the Fazilnagar seat. He was the sitting MLA from Padrauna and had dared Congress-turned-BJP leader RPN Singh to contest from there.

Padrauna Assembly Election 2022: In the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Maurya had fought the election on BJP ticket and had won the Vidhan Sabha seat. He had defeated Bahujan Samaj Party's Javed Iqbal with a margin of 40552 votes.

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, who was in charge of UP along with Priyanka Gandhi in the 2019 national election had quit the the party 2020. Last year, former Union Minister Jitin Prasada, a prominent Brahmin face of the party in UP, had also joined the BJP.
