Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is a premium Android phablet smartphone produced by Samsung Electronics which was officially launched on 19th August 2016. It was a successor of Galaxy Note 5 and had better improved hardware and software than its previous model. It had the restoration of expendable storage and IP68 water resistance. It also introduced new features such as the dual-sided curved display, iris recognition and a USB Type-C port. Galaxy Note 7 had a high demand since its launched and it broke the pre order records in South Korea and also delayed its international releases due to high demands and shortages in supply. However, since 1st September 2016, reports of overheating and exploding batteries have been growing. There have been instances and photos in the social media describing the explosion of batteries of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 when kept on charging. After the reports of exploding batteries, Samsung on 2nd September 2016 voluntarily recalled all the Galaxy Note 7 phones and has promised an exchange programs for the owners of Galaxy Note 7.Samsung unveiled Galaxy Note 7 on 2nd August 2016 and the phone had a similar overall specification and design to the Galaxy S7 with a metal and glass chassis, IP68 water resistance and a microSD slot. It was equipped with octa-core Exynos 8990 system-on-chip with 4 GB Ram and Snapdragon 820 and used a Type-C-port marking Samsungs first device with the symmetrical connector. The 5.7 inches phone with 1550p Super AMOLED display was coated in Gorilla Glass 5. The device as with all Galaxy Note models ships with an active stylus branded as S Pen and the phone features with 12 megapixel rear facing camera similar to S7 and a Dual Pixel image sensor and f/1.7 aperture lens. The software of the phone ships with Android 6.0 Marshmellow and an updated version of TouchWiz user interface and software suite codenamed Project Graze. The previous names were confusing to the consumers and the consumers have perceived Galaxy Note models to the inferior in technology Galaxy S models, so Samsung launched Galaxy Note 7 after Galaxy Note 5 to synchronize it with the flagship Galaxy S series and the Galaxy S7 line.After unveiling the phone on 2nd August 2016, the pre-orders of the phone began on 3rd August 2016, the next day of unveiling the phone and it released in the US on 19th August 2016. Pre-orders in South Korea broke the records with 200,000 plus units being pre-ordered within 2 days. The pre-orders in Canada as stated by Samsung Canada were outstanding. The demand of the phone was so high that the company had to delay the release dates to September in the countries like Malaysia, Netherlands, Russia and Ukraine due to the shortage in supply. On 31st August 2016, with the user reports of batteries exploding while charging, it was reported that Samsung was delaying shipments of the Note 7 in some regions in order to perform additional test for poor qualities. More than 35 reports of battery explodes were reported and many airlines requested the owners of the Galaxy Note 7 to not to use or charge their phones in the flight. Yonhap News Agency reported that Samsung was preparing to recall the devices worldwide due to these battery issues. On 2nd September, Samsung suspended its sale of Galaxy Note 7 and announced a worldwide product exchange program that allows customers to exchange their Galaxy Note 7 for a replacement and they also receive a 25$ gift card from a participating career. It is estimated that the exchange program will cost Samsung US$1 billion to replace the over 2 million devices it had sold before the recall. On 9th September 2016, the Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a warning advising the consumers t immediately stop using the Galaxy Note 7 phones.
