Smriti Zubin Irani, popularly known as Smriti Irani, was born on March 23, 1976, in New Delhi. She is an Indian politician belonging to the BJP and is the current Woman and Child Development Minister who also holds the charge of Textiles ministry. Irani won the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Amethi where she defeated Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in his family's bastion itself. In the previous Narendra Modi government, she was a Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat.
This former model and popular television actress and producer shot to fame with her role of Tulsi Virani in Ekta Kapoor's popular and long-running soap Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi (2000-2008). Irani was the Minister of Textiles with the additional charge of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in the 2014 Modi Cabinet. She has also been the Minister of Human Resource Development.
