Sriti Jha is a famous television star in India, more famous for her role in some of the top ranking shows like Kumkum Bhagya as Pragya. Sriti was born in Begusarai, Bihar on 26 February, 1986. Though she initially wanted to be a teacher and conform to the more traditional jobs and professions, destiny found her a different map to success. It was during her graduation from Delhi Universitys Sri Venkateshwara College that Sriti tried her hands with acting. She participated in the English Dramatics Society and that was when she first got her break. She came to know about the audition for Disney Channels show Dhoom Machale Dhoom and decided to try her hands with the same. She was selected and thus started her acting career with the Indian Television. After the moderate response to the show, Sriti got the role of Sunaina Kotak in Jiya Jale during 2007-08 and then she worked in Shaurya and Suhani as the female lead in 2008. The big break to her career was without a doubt with NDTV Imagines Jyoti where she played the younger sister Sudha Sharma. Sudhas character was initially shown of a rather timid and simple girl. Sriti got the recognition in the show when she played with aplomb a dissociative personality disorder or as simply known split personality. A shy and timid Sudha was seen to convert into an outgoing and aggressive person Devika. Though Sritis role was limited to the first and second season, the acting was noticed and she soon got the role as a lead in Rakt Sambandh as Sandhya in 2010 (again an NDTV Imagine show). She played the role of a blind girl who tragically loses her father on her wedding day. The show was wound about in mysteries and as they unfold, Sandhya is found trapped in the middle of a conspiracy and married into the family of her fathers murderer. She continues to fight off the evil around her. Incidentally, she gains her eye sight and goes back to the house of the perpetrators to seek revenge for her father and the injustices meted out to her. It was the second time in which Sriti played two aspects of the same personality. The show was a moderate success. Sriti next got the chance to work in another challenging role of Jhanvi in Dil Se Di Dua... Saubhagyavati Bhava? The show focused on the issue of marital violence and Sriti played the role of a tortured and physically abused wife to a t. She was much appreciated for her acting skills as a scared and tormented woman. In the show she was cast opposite Karanvir Bohra whose portrayal of an obsessive husband won him many awards. Sriti was seen playing a transformed girl yet again in the serial. She then followed the series with a stint in the hugely successful Ballika Vadhu as Ganga, a love interest to the male protagonist Jagdish Singh. Her role as a simple village damsel, Sriti was much appreciated across. Sriti rose to stardom with her role in Ekta Kapoors Kumkum Bhagya that airs on Zee TV. She plays the female lead of the show Pragya, a simple middle class girl who though is rather grounded finds herself married off to an arrogant pop star Abhi played by Shabbir Ahluwalia. She is shattered when she realizes that the entire marriage was a ploy to avenge her as Abhi belives her to be a gold digger. As eh plot unfolds, many lives get embroiled and Sriti is seen trying to both leave Abhi and then falling deeply in love with him. The story continues to revolve around the lives of Abhi and Pragya as they start appreciating each other and then fall in love with each other but are kept away from each other due to destiny and also the greed of Tanu, a model who is also in love with Abhi and aspires to enjoy because of his success. The show was aired in early 2014 and instantly became a hit. The chemistry of the lead pair was much appreciated and both the main characters have won the Best Actor Awards for the show in 2014 and 2015. Sriti won 5 awards in total in these two years which include the top honors like Indian Telly Award for Best Actress in a Lead Role as well as Indian Telly Award for Best Onscreen Jodi in 2015. Sriti stays in Mumbai and is rumored to be good friends with actor Kunal Karan Kapoor. She loves to read, travel and dance and is a big fan of Hrithik Roshan, Johny Depp, Meryl Streep, Satyajit Ray, Waheeda Rehman, Guru Dutt and Charlie Chaplin. She completed her schooling from Modern Indian School in Kathmandu (where the family stayed during her fathers posting) and then from Laxman Public School, New Delhi. She continues to be a fan favourite as the righteous Pragya who continues to be fated to meet and love Abhi. The show airs on Zee TV from Monday to Friday at 9:00 pm every night.
