Earlier we had informed you that Fiat Chrysler Automotive (FCA) will be launching popular SUV brand Jeep this year in India. While most of the other details are still sketchy, according to some new information that has surfaced, Fiat will be investing a good USD 280 million which is close to INR 1779 crores, to launch the Jeep brand in India.

Mahindra & Mahindra is betting big on its SUV lineup, which will soon get entry of at least two all-new models- the S101 sub-compact SUV and U301 Bolero. The company is also giving makeovers to its existing products including Quanto and XUV500. Launched back in 2011, the XUV500 received an excellent response from buyers. The vehicle was loaded with a range of comfort and convenience features. Now, this SUV is 4 year old and is asking for a change. India’s largest SUV manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra today announced that its flagship Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) Bolero for the ninth consecutive year has retained its position of beings India’s no.1 SUV. The iconic tough and rugged SUV is also known to be India’s highest selling SUV since FY 2007. Moreover as per sales for FY 2014-15, this is the 4th consecutive year that the Bolero has sold over 1 lakh vehicles. Further, the Bolero notched up the 5th position among the top selling passenger vehicles in India in FY 2015. What is significant is that the Bolero is the only SUV to feature among the top 10 selling passenger vehicles in India.

Auto major Hyundai Motor India is planning to put greater thrust on SUV segment with the launch of two products in this category this year. "The next focus will be on sports utility vehicles. Two SUVs are lined up that will be modern with premium feel," Senior VP and head of sales, Rakesh Srivastava, said here today on the sidelines of the launch of all-new 4S Fluidic Verna. Without elaborating on details, he said that both could be into the compact utility vehicle segment. SUVs account for 21 per cent of the industry with 2.5 million units and the numbers are growing, Srivastava said.

Mahindra & Mahindra is recalling an unspecified number of its premium sports utility vehicle XUV500 vehicles manufactured on or before July 2014 to upgrade the side curtain airbag software. Announcing the recall, the company said it will upgrade "the side curtain airbag software on all the XUV500 vehicles manufactured on or before July 2014". It did not disclose the total number of units affected by the recall.

Volvo India is all set to launch the 2015 XC90 luxury SUV in India. Slated for a mid-2015 release, we expect the German carmaker to launch the XC90 in April. Unveiled last year in August 2014, the next-gen XC90 comes with some new exterior styling and mechanical upgrades for the India bound model. Volvo has not yet revealed its price but industry experts believe it will be priced in the range of INR 90 - 95 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Fiat India plans to launch a new compact SUV, codenamed 554, in the country under the Jeep brand. The SUV will be making its global debut in India and will most likely be launched in 2017. Fiat is already set to launch Jeep’s premium SUVs Cherokee and Wrangler this year in India and with the 554 SUV it will be the third vehicle to be launched by the Italian carmaker under the Jeep brand.

Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover today reported a 9 per cent increase in its total global retail sales at 4,62,678 units in 2014. Buoyed by the growth last year and 12 significant new products planned for 2015, the company is aiming to sell over fifty lakh units this year.
