Salman Khan's character in Tubelight is named Laxman. He essays the role of a slow learner (hence called Tubelight) who rises above all his weaknesses to find his brother, army man Sohail Khan, who has gone missing post the war between India and China. The basic premise of Tubelight is inspired from Hollywood film 'A Little Boy' which narrated a little boy's journey to stop the on-going war between two countries and find his father who is missing from the war site. There is a little boy in Tubelight as well, played by child actor Matin Ray Tangu.
Tubelight will be the first Indian film to release in China side by side India. Films like Dangal, 3 Idiots, PK, Baahubali: The Beginning, Bahubali 2: The Conclusion, and Happy New Year saw a release in China around six to eight months after the release in India. The recent release of Aamir Khan's Dangal saw it take over the Chinese box office, beating local films as well as Hollywood releases.
