Toyota loses its title as world's largest automaker to Volkswagen

Toyota has fallen behind Volkswagen in the race for the world's biggest automaker title, figures showed today, as the German giant outsold its Japanese rival in the first half of the year. Toyota said it sold 5.02 million vehicles worldwide between January and June, falling below earlier figures from Volkswagen of 5.04 million units shifted in the same period.

German auto major, Volkswagen recently launched the 2015 Vento facelift in India. During the launch Michael Mayer, head of Volkswagen India mentioned that the company plans to launch five new cars in the country in the next couple of years. Mayer also confirmed that next year VW will launch the new 2016 Pessat, the iconic Beetle, the Tiguan SUV and also an all-new compact sedan. The fifth product will likely be the Tiguan-based compact SUV Taigun.   Here’s the list of upcoming Volkswagen cars in India:

German auto major - Volkswagen today reveled some inside information regarding its upcoming mid-segment sedan 2015 Vento. The new facelift comes with some considerable design upgrades to both the exterior and the interior, whereas mechanically this car remains unchanged. Volkswagen claims that the new 2015 Volkswagen Vento will be offering an improved fuel efficiency figure of up to 7.5%.

Volkswagen Recalls Cars in China: More than 5,800 VW cars have been recalled over faulty fuel pumps

German carmaker Volkswagen and its joint venture in China FAW-Volkswagen will recall 5,869 cars due to problems with fuel pumps. The recall, which starts on July 8, involves eight imported Golf Variant produced in June last year, 512 imported Audi A3 40TFSI, made between December 2013 and March last year, 4,377 Golf A7 1.4T, manufactured between April and June last year, as well as 972 Audi A3 35TFSI made between April and July last year, a notice by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, said.

Volkswagen, the German auto maker had launched the slightly tweaked Vento sedan with a new diesel engine in India last year. This model got a new diesel automatic variant, while the overall profile of the car remained the same. Interestingly, the company is aiming to give a major makeover to the Vento sedan, which is scheduled to go on sale by festive season, 2015. The sedan will get changes to both exterior and interior. The updated sedan has already been spotted in Russia, where it sold as Polo sedan. It is expected to be priced in the range of INR 7.5-11.5 lakhs (ex-showroom). This 2015 Vento sedan will rival against the likes of the Honda City, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, the Hyundai Verna, the Nissan Sunny and the Skoda Rapid.

Volkswagen Cars India: Volkswagen plans to make India low-cost export hub, also to invest INR 1500 crore for localisation

German auto major Volkswagen has announced its plans to make India a low-cost manufacturing hub. With this particular manufacturing hub VW will be catering to both the emerging markets as well as the developed markets. Moreover the carmakers has also decided to invest INR 1500 crore for localisation and also to produce cost effective products, as a part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Make in India' initiative, said Volkswagen India chief representative Mahesh Kodumudi told PTI on the sidelines of the Hannover Fair.

Volkswagen Vento Magnific Launched: Price in India starts at INR 8.57 lakhs for special edition Vento

German carmaker Volkswagen today launched a special edition of its mid-sized sedan Vento in India priced between INR 8.57 lakh and INR 10.42 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The special edition, Vento Magnific, will be available in both petrol and diesel options. While Volkswagen has priced the petrol version in the range of INR 8.57 – 9.26 lakhs the diesel variant is tagged at INR 9.84 lakh and INR 10.42 lakh (all prices ex-showroom) Delhi).
