Agra is primarily known for its Mughal architectural wonders. However, move beyond monumnets like the Taj Mahal and you will find that Agra has many hidden marvels for all kinds of visitors. One such old structure is the Mankameshwar temple located in Mantola. Mankameshwar Mandir is an ancient temple devoted to Lord Shiva. It is believed to have been installed when Lord Krishna was born in Mathura. A downward flight of stairs takes you to the sanctum sanctorum installed in the temple. It is surrounded by other idols from Shiva’s family as is the norm in Shiva temples. The temple complex consists of several other small temples dedicated to like Gagnga, Saraswati, Hanuman and Rama.
