13 kms south of Alappuzha , Ambalappuzha is among the famous temples of Kerala. Built in typical temple architectural style of Kerala, the temple is famous for its palpayasam (sweet made of rice cooked in milk). The Aarattu or temple festival is held in Malayalam month of Meenam (March-April). When Tipu Sultan invaded Kerala, the Krishna idol from Guruvayur was shifted to Ambalppuzha. However, the Lord of Guruvayur and the Lord of Ambalappuzha started feuding and Lord of Guruvayur had to be shifted to Mavelikkara.
