Kumbh Mela is the best time to witness Hindu rituals and culture in Haridwar. Organized once in 12 years, it witnesses the largest congregation of pilgrims in the world. According to mythology, gods and the demons fought for the pot of amrit (nectar of immortality) and four drops fell on earth. Kumbh Mela is held at the four places – Haridwar, Allahabad, Nashik and Ujjain — where the drops of amrit fell. The last Maha Kumbh Mela was in 2010.The Ardh Kumbh is held every six years. The next Ardh Mela will be in 2016.
