First off, we love Mumbai! We’ve lived here most of our lives and we’ve never really come across a city that embraces everyone who lands on its shores. But we never really imagined Mumbai topping a list of cities that offer a great quality of life. Sure, we salute the spirit of the city and don’t even get us started on how inclusive the city is. But when it comes to quality of life, we can easily count more than a few cities that would rank higher than Mumbai. So, you can imagine our surprise when we heard that the Annual Survey of India’s City-Systems (ASICS) that was conducted by Janaagraha Centre for Citizenship and Democracy named Mumbai as the city that offered the best quality of life! The survey was conducted across 21 big cities and it assessed these cities’ ability to provide better quality of life in the medium and long term. Even though these are the top 10 cities of India, when compared with other western cities, they rank quite low. This calls for major reforms in the municipal governance and development in urban areas. Surprisingly, Chandigarh which is India’s first planned city has been at the bottom of the list for two years in a row. Delhi secured the sixth spot on this list. While there is massive scope of improvement in the civic state of these cities, here are the top 10 cities according to ASICS ranking. Also Read - 'Touching Gesture'!
