Solitude is bliss. While travelling with friends or family or your partner can be a lot of fun, solo travel is the best choice for those who want to discover themselves. Also, you get to meet and interact with a lot more people travelers, locals, and others when you travel alone as compared to times when you are in the comfortable company of those you already know. Traveling solo in India can be a great experience. It is extremely hot at this time of the year but mercifully, there are several exciting destinations you can escape to all by yourself.
1. Dharamsala:

One of the finest backpacking destinations in Himachal Pradesh, Dharamsala is a calm and serene solo holiday destination with a touch of adventure. You can spend hours in the cafes of Mcleodganj enjoying great views, visit Norbulingka and the doll museum or take off on a trek to Triund. You might also get to say Hi to The Dalai Lama if youre lucky.
2. Tawang:

Tawang is a great summer getaway in the lovely north-eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh. Tawang receives heavy snowfall during winter. Even monsoons (July to September) are messy to travel around so you should visit it right before the end of summer. The picturesque surroundings and pleasant weather in summer are what make it a great backpacking destination especially for those travelling solo.
3. Coorg:

Coorg, the Scotland of India, is an amazing summer destination in Karnataka. Dense forests, mist-laden hills and wide tea and coffee plantations make it one of the best options in the Southern part of India for nature lovers. It is also an interesting fact that Coorg has Indias largest number of Buddhists.
4. Pondicherry:

A favourite with slow travellers in India, Pondicherry is a quiet place in the southern part of the country that is ideal for your solo travel. Auroville in Pondicherry is a great student destination. The French colonies display great architectural marvels and you can ride around the place in a bicycle. You can also just relax in the huge Auroville campus or try out some great dishes in the several local restaurants. Also, for those interested in slow travel, Pondicherry is the perfect holiday spot with cheap accommodation and eating choices.
5. Gangtok:

Most of India is extremely hot at this time of the year. Gangtok in Sikkim is a great respite from the summer heat as it offers several cool places to stay and enjoy natural, breath-taking views. From beautiful lakes to adventurous treks, Sikkim has a lot to offer for every solo traveller. Attractions like Changu Lake and Nathu La and trekking opportunities like the Green Lake trek and Goecha La Trek can be exciting for solo travellers even if they participate in a group.
