1. Murud–Janjira

This picturesque destination should be one of those best places near Mumbai that you must visit this coming Independence Day weekend. Murud-Janjira is well known for its beaches, lush greenery and misty hills. Garambi Dam, Kasa fort ruins and the majestic Janjira fort (pictured above)are some of the major tourist attractions of this place. The whole area looks green washed during monsoon and this is where you should be for a quick getaway. 2. Alibaug–Kashid

Alibaug and Karshet both are situated very close to each other. Kashid comparatively sees fewer tourists and that again should be a good enough reason to visit this place on long weekends. You can spend two days in Alibaug and explore their stunning beaches and adventure sports , also the magnificent Alibaug (pictured above) fort and then maybe head to Kashid to enjoy the uninterrupted views of the ocean. Alibaug to Kashid will take you about an hour maximum to reach.

3. Ganpatipule

The major attraction in Ganpatipule is the Swayambhu Ganpati Temple which is located on the the beautiful Ganpatipule beach. Located in Ahmednagar district, Bhandardara is the perfect combination of cascading waterfalls quaint villages and also lush greenery with unspoiled environs. Bhandardara lake and the Randha falls are their major tourist attractions. Apart from this, another attraction that you would love to visit is the Wilson Dam and Arthur Lake. A well spent long weekend is what you will be treated to in Bhandardara.

One of the lesser known and under-explored hill station, Saputara is situated in Gujarat. Filled with valleys, beautiful sunset points, vast and vibrant gardens, there is a lot for one to see and enjoy in Saputara. The climate of this place is usually cool, but during monsoon it just gets more pleasant. So, a long weekend and soothing rain showers in a beautiful place as this is what makes for a perfect getaway. The many attractions of this place are the Purna Wildlife Sanctuary, sunset point, Gira falls (pictured above) and also the rope way which is a ten minute ride over the valley which leads to the Sunset Point.
