Indians have become avid travelers. Compared to a few years ago when travel wasn’t such a big part of our culture, Indians have now started traveling way more. Be it students who are still in college, newly weds or even families, the number of travelers has gone up. From backpackers to luxury travelers, more and more Indians are stepping out of the confines of their homes and offices and exploring the world out there. It is therefore obvious that several Indians are searching for their favorite holiday spots online. And according to travel portal Skyscanner, New Zealand tops the list of most searched destinations for Indians this year. With 52 percent increase in number of searches, New Zealand emerged as the clear winner in this regard. Recently, Air New Zealand won the Airline of the year award for 2017. And now, with New Zealand emerging as the top searched destination for Indians, it can only mean a boost in the number of Indian visitors in New Zealand in the year 2017. Indian heartthrob Sidharth Malhotra was signed on as the brand ambassador for New Zealand tourism earlier this year. (DO SEE Sidharth Malhotra’s New Zealand photos are sparking our wanderlust) This may have certainly played a role in helping New Zealand’s numbers. “I feel like I am in paradise. It’s heaven on earth,” Sidharth had told reporters after visiting New Zealand and couple of times and trying out several adventure activities. There is no doubt that his kind testimonial must have driven his fans to search for more info on New Zealand.

Skyscanner looked at data from 50 million users before concluding that New Zealand was the clear favorite with a growth of 52% in travel searches from last year (2015). Australia, New Zealand’s neighbor, came in a close 2nd spot with a 47 percent increase in searches. Malaysia saw a 28 percent increase in searches while the United Kingdom saw a 15 percent increase thanks to Brexit and the drop in value of the Sterling Pound.

Skyscanner also revealed that when you consider the data just for Delhiites, Australia is the hand down winner with a whopping 120 percent increase in searches compared to last year. Malaysia too scored quite high with a 101 percent increase in searches. France saw a 42 percent increase despite the terror attacks which is a good sign. These results go to show that Indians are now looking more at adventure travel where they can indulge in thrilling activities. New Zealand is known for its adventure tourism as it offers some amazing activities like sky diving, bungee jumping, white water rafting and much more. It therefore makes sense that more and more people are searching for info on this wonderful holiday spot worth visiting at least once in a lifetime.
