Just a few hours away from Delhi, Agra is a prime spot for tourism; and the reason of course is the glorious Taj Mahal. While it is a must visit, there are a host of things to do in Agra that need to be brought to the fore. Beautifully-landscaped gardens, historic tombs, relics of Mughal architecture, opulent forts, grand palaces, marketplaces selling the most stunning handicrafts, restaurants serving delicious food, heritage hotels, and local street food, an Agra trip will keep you on your toes for sure. And for those who like a little adventure, a hot air balloon ride to get a bird-eye-view of the Taj will stay with you forever. Also Read - Delhi Schools Reopening: Decision Likely in Next DDMA Meeting. It’s quite something to manoeuvre through the packed interiors and discover the intricacies of the city: there’s a wide gamut to be covered from culture and history, to good food and luxury. Once Taj Mahal is out of the way, remember to visit Baby Taj, the tomb of Itimad-ud-Daulah. It’s important to note however, that it would be wise to keep aside a day for Fatehpur Sikri, which was built by Emperor Akbar. The Agra Fort, another gem, should be explored for its antiquity and display of architectural genius. A city of dualities, Agra has also been quietly undergoing a metamorphosis of its own as new hipster neighbourhoods are cropping up everywhere. You could actually get some interesting shots if you’re into photography. Besides the Taj Mahal, travellers must visit Mehtab Bagh, which is neatly aligned with the Taj, and makes for a great spot to view the iconic monument.

For an extended holiday experience, some of the best places perfect for a weekend getaway from Agra are Jaipur, Bharatpur, Alwar, Lucknow, Gwalior and Mathura, among others. For those looking for an escape amidst mountains, Nainital, Lansdowne and Corbett National Park are not far from Agra and regular trains run from here.
