After a gap of 12 years, Air India resumed its flight services between Chandigarh and Leh on December 31, 2016. The flight between the two sectors was earlier stopped as it was not economically viable but now with the growing demand, it is back on board. The first flight was on Saturday, December 31 and henceforth, there will be flight services between the two cities every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The flight AI-458 will depart from Chandigarh at 0940 hours and land in Leh at 1020 hours. On the other hand, flight AI-457 will take off from Leh at 0805 hours and reach Chandigarh at 0900 hours. The flight service will not only benefit tourists who want to reach the city faster, it is also a move that will help people from Leh especially students, patients and army personnel to reach Chandigarh quickly. The first flight that took off from Chandigarh to Leh was successful and there were 58 passengers who took this flight. On the return flight from Leh to Chandigarh, there were as many as 108 passengers. This is a direct, non-stop flight and Air India is sure it will be a viable one this time around.
