Republic Day is just around the corner and with barely two days left for the grand celebrations, preparations  in the capital are in full swing. From complete dress rehearsals to drills and marches, Delhi is busy with last-minute details to ensure all goes well. As expected, due to such a big event, traffic jams are inevitable but the authorities are warning citizens beforehand about routes to skip and take to avoid getting stuck. It is also a busy time for airports and airlines during this time and more so this year as Republic Day falls on Thursday and many are skipping work to make it a four-day long weekend. The fog is another factor that has often resulted in flight delays in the winter. Security is usually beefed up during Republic Day at most places with large gatherings and airport is one such place. You can expect longer lines, stricter checking and more personnel to ensure all goes well. In a bid to make it all smooth for flyers, airlines are requesting passengers to reach Delhi airport on time so that there is no delay in boarding. Passengers can expect strict security checks at Delhi airports all the way up to Saturday i.e. January 28. This is because of Republic Day when security is often beefed up. The check-in counters open two hours prior the flight time for each domestic flight and three hours before any international flight. The check-in counters shut 45 minutes prior to flight take-off and those reaching late will not be allowed to complete the check-in formalities. This is to prevent further delays in flight take-off as it will take longer for security checks. The high-security checks started on Monday i.e. January 23 and will continue till January 28. If you are flying in and out of Delhi during this time, make sure you do a web check-in that will save you some time and also give you the option of choosing your seat. You will get your boarding pass in hand which means you will not have to stand in long queues at the check-in counter. If you aren’t planning to do a web check-in, reach the airport two hours prior to your flight so that you are well in time to stand in the check-in line and then head to the security line. Follow basic rules like not carrying any restricted items in your baggage, liquids less than 100 ml in your hand baggage and having your ticket and identity proof handy.
