Auli has the the best skiing facilities in India with ski stretches ranging from 400m to 4km. There are two types of skiing that you can do here – tandem and professional. It’s best to go for tandem skiing with local ski operators if you don’t have experience. The charges would vary from INR 300 to INR 500. You could also avail various government run tour operators that provide week long or 15 days ski training programs that include accommodation and food. Plan accordingly and go for it, because the snow gets harder in the afternoon after 2pm.
Auli is also great for some trekking – the snow slopes of this station are known for winter sports. You could trek to Gurso Bugyal – a beautiful meadow that transforms into an eye-catching green beauty during spring and wears a white look during winters. Carry a camera with you; you’ll cherish the pictures you bring back with you from there.
You must also experience the breathtaking views of valley on one side and snow peaks on the other with a cable car ride in Auli. The hill station has Asia’s longest cable car spanning over 4km – called the Joshimath-Auli Gondola. Travellers can enjoy the dazzling beauty of Nanda Devi, Trishul, Dron Parvat and Chhang Bhang.
