Last night Bipasha Basu took to Instagram and posted this photograph from her honeymoon suite. The picture showed off the bed art — a couple of swans and a bunny made out of linen — that the folks at her hotel created for the honeymooning couple. Sure, it was a little cheesy — kissing swans made out of towels is so 90s, even though that bunny was a nice touch — but it was, admittedly, cute. Like it or not, bed art has persisted over the decades, despite the cheesiness associated with it. And swans and bunnies made out of bed/bath linen is not unusual even for luxury properties such as the Jumeirah Vittaveli where Bipasha Basu and Karan Singh Grover are honeymooning. We thought it was kinda sweet that someone took the effort to make animals out of towels and present it to their guests. And that was that. Except that the next morning, we discovered Bipasha Basu taking on trolls who thought it might not be a bad idea to take a swing at the actress and her honeymoon. Bipasha was justifiably upset but the entire incident got us thinking. The fact is that honeymooning is intimate business. For most Indian middleclass couples, it remains one of the very few trips they take by themselves. In a country where couple’s privacy is unheard of, honeymoon serves to be that one sacrosanct vacation, which couples look back upon with much fondness. For most part, middleclass couples rarely talk about their honeymoon, and even fewer share photos online. Slowly, though, things are changing.
