Located in the breathtaking state of Jammu and Kashmir, Dras is the coldest inhabited place in India and the second coldest inhabited place in the world. It lies in the amazing Kargil district and is a delight for anyone who loves nature. Dras falls on the Srinagar highway and is often called the “Gateway to Ladakh”. The weather here during summer is simply splendid making it one of the coolest options for a getaway.

One of the popular pilgrim spots of the country, Hemkund Sahib is also probably the most picturesque. It is known for its gurudwara called Gurudwara Sri Hemkund Sahibji. Another popular pilgrim spot, Amarnath is known for its annual pilgrimage that attracts a huge number of devotees. It has a picturesque route and can serve as an excellent summer trip. Dates for Amarnath Yatra 2018 have been announced and like every year, the pilgrimage this year too is expected to be well-attended.

Both North Sikkim and West Sikkim are considered to be cold places which are worth checking out during the summer season. The whole state is full of marvelous trekking trails and breathtaking passes.



Spiti in Himachal Pradesh is home to some magnificent monasteries and stunning roads flanked by breathtaking views. The clear blue skies during summer in this region attract tourists, especially bikers, from all over India. While Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir may have become too crowded and commercialized, Spiti Valley still has its charm and is relatively less crowded.


And then there is Tawang in northeast India. Capital of Arunachal Pradesh, Tawang is surrounded by lush green valleys and fields. The Sela pass located at the border od West Tameng district and Tawang is one of the finest and most beautiful passes in India.
