Located on the foothills of the Himalayas at an altitude of 7000 ft. and at a distance of approx. 34 km from Kalimpong, Lava is perhaps the only place in West Bengal to receive snowfall. Since its not exactly a tourist destination, it offers utmost peace and calm and is great for nature lovers.

Beautiful virgin forests, snow-clad mountains and scenic views all around you, minus the crowd – now who wouldn’t want to vacation in a place like that. We mostly flee to the mountains in North India, but this one truly deserves our attention. This little hamlet in West Bengal, offers the traveller unparalleled views of the mighty Kanchenjunga, as well as other snow peaks such as Mount Siniolchu, Jelep La Pass, and Rechela Pass as well.

You can indulge in sports like trekking through the exotic forests and snowy mountains such as Rimbik, Samthar plateau and Rishop, or laze around and soak in the colours of a sunrise, the pace of this place is such that you never fear of missing out on anything. Visit the famous Lava Monastery near the Neora Reservoir, a famous attraction for its architecture and beauty.

Lava also acts as a gateway to the Neora Valley National Park located between Sikkim and Bhutan. A birder’s delight, home to rare orchards and even lush green valleys – all the natural wonders can be found in this one place alone. Although October to April is an ideal time to visit Lava, if you wish to witness snowfall then December-January is the perfect time for it. The nearest airport is at Bagdogra (115km) and Sikkim (113km) that are well-connected to all major metro cities in India.
