Several thousand years ago, wild wolves teamed up with human hunters, forging a bond that has remained strong even as both species evolved. Poets and wordsmiths have written about tales and poems dedicated our furry four-legged friends, and we’re sure that our dogs would have done the same too, if they could have. We love dogs and our dogs, for some reason, love us even more. And with Friendship Day 2017 coming up this Sunday, August 6, it’s time that we celebrated the greatest and most persistent friendship of them all. Here are some of the best places in India where you can have some quality time with your best friend.
Camp Della Resort, Lonavala, Maharashtra

Camp Della Resort says that it is the first pet-friendly luxury resort in the country. It certainly is one of the oldest players in a market that is woefully under-populated, but it is good to know that dogs in Mumbai, Pune and other nearby areas have a place where they can unwind and have fun. Camp Della Resort has special facilities for your favorite friend, including walking and pet-sitting services and special pet beds, food and kennels. It also has its own dogs to give yours some company.
Eco Trails Houseboats, Kottayam, Kerala

Dog owners down south can look up Eco Trail houseboats in Kottayam. With the monsoon season in full swing, you can spend a weekend in a houseboat with your furry companion watching the rains drench the forests and the backwaters. Eco Trails allows two dogs to stay in their houseboats, free of cost. They also provide pet food as you want, along with sleeping facilities for your dog. What better way to spend the weekend than with your dog on your lap on a houseboat floating lazily along the backwaters of Kerala. Our friends in Delhi and neighboring cities can opt for a more adventurous escape with their strong-nosed companions to the mountains of Uttarakhand. Specifically, the Emerald Trail in the small yet scenic mountain town of Bhimtal makes for a perfect getaway for you and your dog. Spread across three acres, there is plenty of space here for your dog to run free and wander. Your old friend gets special bowls and beds, along with home-cooked meals made according to your requirements. The staff also offers to pet-sit your dog if you want to explore Bhimtal on your own, but we recommend going out and exploring nature trails with your doggo for company.

You might be tempted to treat your dog like royalty this Friendship Day, in which case you could head to the Tree of Life Resort & Spa in the royal city of Jaipur, Rajasthan. Get yourself a villa for you and your pet and play out in the private garden before going out and exploring the city and its ancient sights. You do have to manage the food for your dog, though, so make sure you come prepared.
Woods Villa Resort, Jaipur, Rajasthan

More of a home-stay, the Woods Villa Resort lies around 5 km from Jaipur city proper, offering you some nice peace and quiet in the middle of the woods. Your dog will have plenty of space in the garden to play around, with the owners’ Boxer for company. The in-house cook will also be available to prepare meals for your dog as per your requirements. All you need to do is carry your dog bed to keep in the room. ALSO READ: 3 places in India where your dog can beat the heat this summer

You cannot miss the imposing Himalayan Village as you make your way through Parvati Valley in Himachal Pradesh. Located a little over 5 km and 15-20 minutes before Kasol on the way from Bhuntar, Kullu, this scenic resort lies at the foothills of Malana, surrounded by pine and deodar trees. It has kennels to keep your dogs, but you can opt to keep them with you in the cottages too. The cottages, by the way, are themed, and two of them lie on a Machan, offering incredible views of the roaring Parvati River below and the mountains around.
