Goa is India’s hottest tourist spot. While it is really an all-year destination, November to February is when its tourist season peaks. This is also when most beaches in Goa are crowded, noisy and turn into commercial zones with a lot of hustle-bustle. While this may be great for party animals, it does not serve those who want some quiet beach time with lesser crowds. Mercifully, Goa is home to some beautiful, lesser-known beaches which are still clean and away from all the crazy festive madness. Galgibaga beach is one of them. Located in south Goa’s Canacona region, Galgibaga beach is known for its clean sand and quiet ambiance. It is truly one of Goa’s hidden delights. What this secluded beach is most popular for is that it is a nesting spot for Olive Ridley turtles. Also, winter is the best time to visit Galgibaga beach as you can spot some Olive Ridley turtle nests/eggs on this beach in this season. Since it is one of the few nesting spots for the turtles, the Galgibaga Beach comes under the purview of the forest department. Along with the nearby Agonda and Morji beaches, Galgibaga is one of the places where protection work of the turtles has been implemented well. Its silver sand dotted with palm trees makes fora great beach walk. The beach strip is about 1.7 km long and is flanked by dense pine vegetation on one side. Swimming here can be a bit risky as the entering into the sea is quite sharp here. You will find some shacks in the southern part of the Galgibaga Beach. Accommodation options are limited too but you will find comfortable hatsus at the beach and some suitable villas in the village. The Galgibaga Beach resort is quite good for a comfortable stay where you can find some solitude and quiet by the sea.
