Guru Purnima is celebrated all across India and Nepal annually in honor of teachers. It is celebrated on the full moon day or purnima in the Hindu calendar month of ashada which typically falls in June or July and this year it falls on July 19. Sai Baba is one of the most revered spiritual teachers. As a mark of respect and gratitude, devotees offer special prayers to Shirdi Sai Baba. On Guru Purnima, thousands of devotes flock to Shirdi every year and this year too was no different, The three day long Guru Purnima festival having begun already, devotees have already reached this holy shrine.On this day, the Shrine is decorated with flowers and the whole temple is illuminated. Several devotees from Mumbai and Pune walk down to the shrine. Besides the poojas and aartis which are performed to honour the saint, acclaimed artists are also set to perform at Shirdi.

Bajirao Shinde, the CEO of Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust (SSST) said that they are expecting at least three lakh devotees this year. The temple is said to be open 24 hours on 19th owing to the lage number of devotees that are expected.

And because this festival falls during monsoon, the trust has also arranged with temporary shelters that are waterproof and extremely comfortable for devotees. They are doing the best of what they can to ensure that Guru Purnima is celebrated with much pomp in Shirdi without any difficulty for devotees.
