Airbnb, the online room rental service, and Pinterest, a social media site self-described as a ‘Catalogue of Ideas’, have occasionally collaborated in the past to give travelers ideas and opportunities to explore the world. In their latest team-up, the two listed out the most popular holiday destinations in the world right now, and some of the results are pretty surprising. Based on more than 3 billion travel ideas analyzed on Pinterest and 3 million Airbnb listings in around 65,000 cities, a list of the most trending travel destinations was chalked out, showing a nice departure from the usual tourist haunts of the past. Iceland and Scotland, for instance, have seen growing interest among travelers. Budget-friendly travel searches have also risen on Pinterest. Located at the southern end of the Sinai Peninsula, facing the Red Sea, Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt is a popular resort town famed for its scuba diving and other water activities, like kite-surfing, snorkeling, para-sailing and boating. Part of the world’s largest linked ski area, Les Trois Vallées, Courchevel is a ski resort in the French Alps with more than 100 ski runs. With several moguls along some of the runs, this place is also popular for snowmobiling and snowboarding. In fact, the place is so vast that it is split into four settlements, defined by their altitude. The tallest and most popular of the settlements is Courchevel 1850, with the flashiest restaurants, pubs and hotels on offer. But Courchevel attracts more than just the glamorous; it brings in people from all over the world, seduced by the challenging ski slopes, couloirs and pistes. The resort town lies around two hours away from Lyon and Geneva airports, but the airport of Chambéry is closer by.

And there is the hilltop Montjuïc, where you can explore the sculpture and botanical gardens. Barcelona is also full of ancient architecture, museums and beautiful views of the hills and sea.
