In Maharashtra, the celebrations for Akshaya Tritiya take place primarily in individual households. It is an important day that is usually celebrated by women in Maharashtra by participating and performing in Haldi-Kumkum. Carrying out Haldi-Kumkum is one of the rituals that symbolizes marital bliss. Women pray for their husband’s long lives. Women pray to Gauri, the goddess of marital bliss. An image of the goddess is adorned with flowers and jewellery. During haldi-kumkum, the hostesses also offer various sweet dishes like karanji and aamrass to women to visit their homes.
