The cruise game has picked up in Mumbai and how. After the recently launched Angriya from Mumbai to Goa, the Mumbai Port Trust is ready with another marine cruise attraction. They’re coming up one-hour cruise liners that will carry 100-150 passengers from the domestic cruise terminal near Mazgaon up to Raj Bhavan via the Gateway and Marine Drive.
The small cruise liners will be ready to sail by February 2019, and will have entertainment as well as food facilities on board. There’s one like this already off the Bandra coast (although, it’s more of a stationary floatel), and two of them at the Gateway of India that was launched just a few weeks ago, and has gained massive popularity among the crowd already.
As a move by the state to boost coastal tourism in the city, the two harbour cruise will have a 150-meter jetty which will work like a passenger terminal at Marine Drive. Measures are also being taken to allow up to 5 meters of draft for the cruises to operate during low tide, and proper lanes are being marked for ships to operate so that they do not come onto the main shipping routes of the big ships sailing to and from Mumbai’s harbour.
Additionally, the one-km stretch facing the sea at the port trust in Mazgaon will have roll-on roll-off services, a skating rink, amphitheatre, an iconic building and seaside restaurants. It will be open to all the citizens at a very nominal rate. Looks like more and more avenues of fun-filled activity is opening up in the maximum city, and we aren’t complaining.
