If you are traveling to Mumbai this weekend, be prepared to see the worst of the suburban Mumbai train network. In order to execute work on the construction of extended platforms at CST, the Central Railway has placed a 72-hour mega block on the Harbour line in Mumbai starting this morning. The block will be effective between CST railway station and Vadala road railway station from February 19 to Feb 21, 2016. Mega blocks are a regular phenomenon in Mumbai almost every weekend. It is during these times that the technicians of Mumbai’s suburban railway get the opportunity to identify and fix problems along the very extensive network. Suburban railway trains serve as a backbone of the city’s transport system. The overburdened network regularly requires maintenance that cannot be carried out in the few hours of the night when the trains don’t ply.

Here are the details of the mega block in Mumbai:

On day 1, that is Feb 19:

Only 445 out of 590 services will be available as 178 services originating from and terminating at CST have been canceled. Be advised that on Feb 19:

Last Up local from Western suburb towards CST will leave from Andheri at 23.26 hours.
Last Up local from Navi Mumbai towards CST will leave from Panvel at 23.20 hours.
Last Down local from CST will be Bandra local leaving CST at 00.41 hours on 19/20 February 2016 (Fri-Sat night).
Vadala Road terminating / originating services and Panvel – Andheri services will run as per schedule.

Trains might run 5-10 minutes behind schedule. This is phase 1 of the block scheduled between Feb 19 1.30 am to Feb 20 1.30 am.

On day 2 and day 3, Feb 20 and 21:

There will be no services between CST and Wadala from 01.30 hours on 20 February 2016 to 01.30 hours on 22 February 2016.

For those who need to commute by trains on these days, special services will run between Vadala Road and Navi Mumbai / Bandra on both days:
At a frequency of 8 minutes between Vadala Road – Panvel,
At a frequency of 32 minutes between Vadala Road – Belapur and Vadala Road- Vashi,
At a frequency of 16 minutes between Vadala Road – Bandra

This is phase 2 of the block scheduled till 22 February 1.30 am.

Harbour line passengers who have tickets or passes are permitted to travel via Thane/Kurla/Dadar on both the days.
