You’d be forgiven for not knowing about Riga. The Latvian city doesn’t feature in the itinerary of your typical Euro trip, but it should be. This is a city bursting with heritage; think cobbled streets, trams that run through the city and a city center that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Riga’s old town is called Vecr?ga and it is its biggest attraction. The city center, Centrs, has more than 800 buildings built in the style of Art Nouveau or Jugendstil architecture. Here are some photos of Riga that capture some of its beauty. The architecture is distinguished by the intricate facades you see on the buildings, with beautiful carvings of mythical creatures and flowers and ornately decorated windows and doorways. The old town also has a number of restaurants and bars where you can sit out and soak in the views around you and cobbled streets that you can walk on and cover the entire area. It is as close as you can get to a world that is centuries old.
