The total distance from Delhi to Dharamshala is roughly 490 km. There are around 11 bus operators who provide bus services from Delhi to Dharamshala. Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) has buses running from Delhi to Dharamshala from 5 PM to 10:30 PM. The journey made by bus is quite comfortable, as buses usually travel in the night and by the time you wake up in the morning, you would have reached Dharamshala. If one wishes to travel by car, then National Highway 1 (NH-1) is the best route to take. The journey can be completed in 9-10 hours. It is better to start off in the morning, and by late evening or night, one reaches Dharamshala. One major stop to make on the way is Chandigarh, to take rest and have some refreshments. The total distance is 260 km, and it’s a 5-hour drive.



On the way, the major towns you pass through are Panipat, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Ambala, and then finally you reach Chandigarh. The total distance from Chandigarh to Dharamshala is 245 km, and it takes 5-6 hours to complete the journey, via NH503. On the way, you pass through Hoshiarpur and Kangra, and finally you reach the beautiful picturesque town of Dharamsala, the place where His Holiness The Dalai Lama lives.
