Go moon-gazing and star-gazing
Anyone will tell you that the best time to experience the Rann Utsav is during the full moon winter nights. A full moon above the desert flats of the Rann is a breathtaking sight. The cool white glow of the moon reflects from the pale salt flats, resulting in a view unlike anything else. And December 3, 2017 and January 2, 2018 are the nights of full moon during the festival. The Rann Utsav celebrates the culture of the Kutch region and Gujarat in general. As such, it sees performances by some of the greatest folk artists in the state. Go sightseeing and seek some adventure
The two things we’ve mentioned above are best experienced at night. In the daytime, the Rann Utsav has plenty other experiences to offer. There are extensive sightseeing tours that will take you through the region; perfect for those new to the Rann and the state. There are also solo rides across the desert on a patrol vehicle. For kids, there are some fun and controlled adventure activities in store.
Get a bird’s eye view of Kutch
The great Rann of Kutch is an incredible sight from the ground, and even more so from the air. And the best way to get this viewpoint is by taking a hot air balloon ride. The Rann Utsav hosts hot air balloon operators who offer an unforgettable flight over the Kutch region and the salt desert.
Go on a camel ride by Mandvi beach
Another big attraction at the Rann Utsav is the camel ride along nearby Mandvi beach. Enjoy the cool pleasant breeze from the Arabian Sea and watch the ocean waves hit the sandy shores. It’s a nice break from all the events at the Rann Utsav, some downtime after experiencing all the song, dance and festivities.

Go shopping for handicrafts
Of course, we cannot talk about the Rann Utsav without mentioning the beautiful handcrafted fabrics, textiles and products sold. If you are itching for some shopping, the nearby villages of Gandghi-Nugam, Khavda and Bhirandiyra arrange workshops that showcase some great products. The Rann Utsav grounds host plenty of stalls too, selling some interesting leather goods, silverware, Kutchi embroidery and ornaments. Gobble up the delicious food at the festival
The Rann Utsav also has some pretty delicious food to offer. Two large dining halls are set up for the festival, serving up food to satisfy all kinds of taste buds. They serve authentic Kutchi cuisine, and food corners outside like the Oasis 24×7 café and Moonlit Cafe offer other kinds of food throughout the day and even night.
