Republic Day is one  of the national holidays of India and falls on January 26 every year. The day is an important one in history as it is when the Constitution of India came into being in 1950. In 2017, India celebrates its 68th Republic Day and preparations are in full-swing in the capital where all the action takes place. Delhi is the epicentre of all the activities surrounding Republic Day as the parade takes place at Rajpath. India’s Republic Day Parade is one of the largest events in the world and is a spectacle that should not be missed. While many watch it at home on their televisions, there are others who buy passes to attend the ceremony. The parade is a grand affair and is a result of months of preparations. The Indian Army, Navy and Air Force come together to put up a great show followed by troops who then showcase the cultural diversity of India by representing all states and union territories on different floats. Even schoolchildren are part of the parade and since 2016, foreign armies have also been included in the parade. Last year the French Army was part of it and this year, UAE soldiers will lead the way. The parade takes place on January 26 morning. Every year, Republic Day celebrations begin at 9 am followed by the parade. This year, the Republic Day Parade will begin at 9.50 am  from Vijay Chowk and move on to the Red Fort grounds via Rajpath, India Gate, Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and Netaji Subhash Marg. The event goes on for about three hours and is telecast live on TV so that those who aren’t at Rajpath can also witness the parade. This year, the chief guest of the Republic Day Parade is UAE Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan. You can expect a great show from the armed forces who will display the military might of the nation in the form of aerial acts, marine commandos and marches and bands by contingents.
