A ticket on the RMS Titanic, the world’s most luxurious ship of not just its time but of any time did not come cheap. Even the cheapest cabin on the Titanic was higher than one on any other ship. So you can very well imagine how expensive a first-class ticket would be! Believed to be THE most expensive ticket on this ship, it cost a whopping $61,000 in today’s time. In 1912 it cost $2,560. This is what was in store for the family who bought this ticket.

A three-room suite with two bedrooms and a sitting room in addition to two wardrobe rooms and a bath is where the family of a 58-year-old woman from Philadelphia and her 36-year-old son stayed. Their maids however occupied cabins nearby. One of the most striking features of their accommodation was the 50-foot-long private promenade deck.

If you think the luxury ended at that, here’s where they dined. They could choose from the first-class dining room or the a la carte restaurant. The meals were nothing less than 10 courses that included the finest delicacies. From oysters to duckling to lamb and salmon, they had all options, not to forget two offerings of cow as well.

They were also the privileged few who had access to the Turkish bath, salt-water pool, state-of-the-art gym, squash court and the first-class lounge. But the true worth of the most expensive ticket on the Titanic was when the family along with their servants were among the first ones who got a seat on the lifeboat. The Titanic may have been the most luxurious ship of all time but it did not have enough lifeboats to save all aboard.
