Since the time Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced his Swachh Bharat Mission in 2014, India has been trying its best to keep the country clean and improve its sanitation. As part of the survey carried out by the Quality Council of India, Indian cities were ranked based on their solid waste management, number of toilets and sanitation strategy. Yesterday, the Urban Development Ministry unveiled the list of 73 cities ranking them in order of their cleanliness based on their criteria. 1. Mysore

2. Chandigarh

After being called the most perfect city in the world by BBC, Chandigarh came second on the list of top 10 cleanest Indian cities.

3. Tiruchirappalli

Trichy in Tamil Nadu known for its temples and fort ranked third in the race to the cleanest city of India.

4. New Delhi

India’s capital wasn’t  far behind, even though it did not top the list, it secured the fourth spot.

This coastal city in Andhra Pradesh known as the jewel of the east coast of India came in fifth.

6. Surat

From the PM’s state, Surat in Gujarat secured the sixth spot. The city is also part of the top 100 cities to be developed as smart cities.

And another city from Gujarat, Rajkot ranked the seventh cleanest city of India. It is also one of the fastest growing cities in the world.

8. Gangtok

Northeastern city in Sikkim, Gangtok ranked number eight on the list. It is also known for its hiking trails and serene beauty.

Part of Pune, this city came in ninth and is known for its pleasant weather all around the year and industrial base.
