Siachen glacier is one of the most difficult treks in the world and in 1981, an Indian Army personnel raised the tricolor after braving the extreme weather conditions. To give you perspective, temperatures drop down to minus 60 degrees, the glacier is at an altitude of 15,632 ft and you can lose your fingers and toes to frostbite if your bare skin touches metal for over 15 seconds. The harsh conditions means there is less oxygen available and you are likely to lose weight, lose appetite and sleeping disorders and memory loss are common. Since the body cannot aclamatize beyond 5400m, it slowly begins to deteriorate. Our soldiers brave all these to guard our borders and prevent enemies from entering our nation. Sadly, most lives lost in Siachen are not due to fighting the enemy but due to the inhabitable weather conditions. Even so, the Indian Army diligently protects us by deploying soldiers to this glacier. We are forever indebted to them and to honor their bravery, nine celebrities have come together for a new reality series called Salute Siachen. Produced by Eros Now, it will be available for viewing on their website from January 15, Army Day onwards. The star cast consists of TV and film actors, models and sportsmen. The nine celebrities who are part of this series are Arjun Rampal, Rannvijay Singha, Arunoday Singh, Hasan Zaidi, Shlok Sharma, Sonnalli Seygall, Yuvraj Walmiki, Namratha Gujaran and RP Singh. The concept of the show is the celebs trekking from Siachen base camp to Kumar Post which is at a height of 15,632 ft. The show is a tribute to the Indian soldiers who effortlessly protect our borders living in such extreme situations. We will get to see the struggle that they experience on day-to-day basis. Since the trek was one mammoth task, the celebrities who were a part of it had to undergo rigorous training to ensure they were well-equipped physically to go for it. The trek begins in Leh to get them acclamatized to the weather conditions that only get worse as they move up.
