Meet Bharulata Kamble, a woman of Indian origin who is all set to drive from the UK to India. She is scheduled to flag off her journey on July 16 and is expected to cover a distance of about 31,000 km in 75 days all by herself. Should she complete the drive, Bharulata Kamble will be the first woman to complete a trans-continental drive. So just how difficult will the drive be? For starters, Bharulata Kamble will have to drive through 5500 km of mountainous terrains at times reaching an altitude of 3700m. At least 2500 km of her journey will be through deserts and all of this is being done for a cause.

Kamble told Free Press Journal that she hopes to raise funds for medical care of the poor and underprivileged in rural India. She said she is also promoting the cause of women empowerment and hopes that this feat raises awareness against female foeticide.
Bharulata Kamble hopes to set a world record with her drive and so it will be observed and recorded by officials of the Guinness Book of World Records.
The epic journey will begin from Luton in the UK and will include traversing a distance of at least 700 km north of the Arctic Circle. In doing so, Bharulata Kamble will break the record of Victor Bruce a British national who drove with her husband from England to the Arctic Circle and 400 km from north of the Arctic Circle 89 years ago. Bharulata Kamble will drive through Nordkapp in Norway and touch several cities in Europe, Belarus, Russia, Kazakasthan, China and Myanmar before arriving in New Delhi. The journey is expected to conclude on September 27 in Mahad, Maharashtra, the town her in-laws hail from. According to the FPJ report, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is expected to welcome her to Maharashtra. (ALSO SEE 11 vintage photos of Maharashtra like you’ve never seen before)
In an attempt to prepare for her journey, Bharulata has so far undertaken three test drives across Europe earlier this year.
