If you love spotting tigers in India’s national parks, this new train is especially for you. Flagged off on June 5 by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, the Tiger Express will take you to Kanha and Bandhavgarh national parks in Madhya Pradesh in addition to Dhuadar Waterfalls. Both these national parks are famous for tiger-spotting and the move is to make it easier for wildlife lovers to see this beauty in real life. The Tiger Express is a semi-luxury tourist train and you can expect some amazing service in it. Here’s what’s in store for you. The Tiger Express package is a five-night/six-day tour with a visit to these two national parks and the waterfall. Your journey begins from Safdarjung Railway Station at 3 pm and you reach Katni Railway Station at 5.40 am next day. The train offers two classes of travel – AC First Class and AC Two-tier Sleeper Class. First class has cabins with lockable doors with two or four beds while the sleeper class is an open compartment with four beds.
That’s not all, the Tiger Express also has shower cubicles and a dining car for passengers. Buffet meals are included in the package so you can savor some yummy food on your trip.
After reaching Katni, you have breakfast and leave for Bandhavgarh to check in to your hotel. After an afternoon safari, you head back to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay. Next morning you proceed to your stay in Kanha, go for an afternoon safari and another safari the next morning.
On the last day, you head to Jabalpur to see the Dhuadar Waterfalls. After a session of high tea, you head back to the station to board the Tiger Express. It reaches Delhi at 3.50 pm next day.
The package doesn’t come cheap and you’ll shell out Rs 49,500 per person for a single occupancy AC First Class package. For double occupancy the price is Rs 45,500 and Rs 44,900 for triple occupancy. If you are traveling by AC Two-tier, it will cost you Rs 43,500 for single occupancy, Rs 39,000 for double and Rs 38,500 for triple occupancy.
Even though the pricing is quite steep, the package includes traveling in this semi-luxury train, stay in three-star hotels, all meals on the train, safaris and traveling within the city by AC car. Definitely worth your money. But the fare is just for Indian citizens, foreigners need to pay an additional Rs 4,000.
