Located 150 km south-west of Bangalore, Mysore is a beautiful place to visit. A road trip will take approximately four hours or more depending on the traffic. The best time to visit the town is from September to March. You can hike up the Chamundi hills and visit the Chamundeshwari Temple, take a trip to the Mysore Palace and the museum it houses. The Railway museum is a one of the tourist attractions here. Wildlife enthusiasts could stop by the Nagarhole National Park.
This hill station is located in Tamil Nadu and is approximately 350 km from Bangalore. It is considered to be one of the three best hill stations of the state along with Ooty and Coonoor. A visit to the Catherine Falls and Elk Falls is a must when in Kotagiri. It is located at a height of over 5,000 ft above sea level among the Nilgiris. The winters are ideal for a visit to Kotagiri as the temperature is pleasant.
Ooty is without doubt one of the most loved hill stations in the south of India. Ooty is around 280 km from Bangalore. A drive from Bangalore to this hill station will take approximately seven hours. You must take a ride on the Nigliri Mountain Railways, visit the various tea and coffee estates, the Ooty Lake, botanical gardens, Dodabetta peak, the Madumalai National Park and the Pykara Waterfalls.
Th weather in Chikmagalur isalmost perfect throughout the year. It is a coffee paradise for coffee lovers. The plantations here have the most inviting aroma and scenic beauty. Located at some 250 km from Bangalore, it is a serene destination for a weekend getaway. Accommodation is not too expensive here.
At a distance of 280 km from Bangalore, Wayanad in Kerala is yet another beautiful destination that is not too expensive for a trip. The best time to visit is from October to March. Visit the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary to spot some very endangered species. This hill station in the Western Ghats has amazing weather throughout the year. You can drive down to Wayanad and look at the beautiful scenery lined by coconut trees.
Famous as the Kashmir of the South, Coorg is a crowd puller for its scenic vistas, cloudy skies and fragrant coffee plantations. Coorg is around 270 km from Bangalore. Apart from visiting tea plantations here, you can visit the Elephant camp, the Madikeri Fort, the Raja’s Seat and Abbi Falls for an experience close to nature.
Pondicherry is approximately 380 km from Bangalore. Though this French Colony doesn’t exactly need an introduction, it is definitely a place you must visit. There is a lot to do in this town other than a visit to Auroville. If nothing else, you can just hire a cycle and ride around town, stop by a cafe and dig into some croissants. Visit Serenity, Paradise and Auroville beaches, the Chunnambar Boat house, Church of Sacred House of Jesus and Matrimandir.
Calicut, earlier known as Kozhikode, is one of Kerala’s most beautiful and well kept destinations. It is located right in between the Western Ghats and the Arabian Sea. You can stop by the Kozikhode Beach, Kappad Beach, Tusharagiri Falls and the Tali Temple.
